Return to Marysville series

Marysville was burnt out during the 2009 Black Saturday fires in which 34 people died in the area.

The Australian bush has a regenerative power to it that many of the gums trees have evolved such that they actually need the heat of a bush fire to germinate and release seeds and epicormic buds allowing the rebirth of the gums. This contrast of black and green is quite a sight to behold.

This series was taken out the window of a moving car as it moved from Marysville back into Melbourne taking a healthy dose of inspiration from Ernst Haas [link]

Before the Game series

Pretty much the same as The Cup [link] series, just a different location. Looking at how presence is arrived at through accumulation or lack of ground management to empty the bins before they are over flowing. I guess like the grandfinal is a build up of the entire season.
The images were taken at the 2011 Australian Rules Football (AFL) grand final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Trying to keep things objective in a Bernd Hilla and Becher [link] kind of way.

We all leave signs of our presence in this world, while maybe not on the time scale that Russell Crow was banging on about in Gladiator but still it's there. Sometimes it goes unnoticed but when piled on piles of piles, it accumulates and makes it presence known, as is the case of overflowing rubbish bins.

This series was taken at The Melbourne Cup and if the marketing spin is to be believed the race that stops the nation. By the end of the days events the cup does runneth over in more ways than one.

I guess you could argue it's just a poor result of not empting out the brings at a faster rate, than which they are filling up, so that it goes unnoticed but maybe it's better for the presence to be known. But judging by most of the punters at the event it probably didn’t rate high on their list.
