Based on the Phillip-Lorca diCorcia Heads [link] series of portraits taken in the streets of New York where overhead flashes were used to light the subject and overpower the available daylight resulting in a spotlight halo effect, focusing on the subject mid-thought and unaware of the camera. I shot the 2010 World Road Cycling Championships held in Geelong, Australia, in the same way, using off camera flash in an area covered in shadow. The same thing has also been done by Katrin Koenning in her Thirteen: Twenty Lacuna [link] series, using sunlight reflected off buildings and direct sunlight in a Melbourne laneway. It's not original but captures these athletes, in a way that I haven't seen them captured before.
As a parting remark by a college principle, I was told that he would look forward to the day that he saw my work hanging in MoMA. As such, I wasn’t quite sure how to take the remark. Was it final and long overdue gatekeeper validation of my clear artistic genius, or a form of mild mocking, better placed in a high school playground of false hope? I'll leave it up for you to decide. If you do actually see any of this stuff at MoMA in the future, my apologies in advance.

Turning Heads series taken at the 2012 L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival
I've always wondered what models think about when they are swaggering up and down the catwalk particularly when you are turning heads. maybe it's all just a haze and blur. Taking a page out of Philip-Lorca diCorcia heads series [link] capturing people lost in their own thoughts as well channelling a healthy dose of Ernst Haas [link] I took this series at one of the practise sessions for the main runway at the 2012 L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) [link]. Honestly I couldn't tell you which show this was from but there was plenty of designs with fabric that was moving all over the place. Thanks go out to Monty Coles at The Loupe [link] for hooking me up with a pass to the runway session.

Push series
The equivalent of Starbucks in Las Vegas there is a group on every corner. I wonder what brought these people to a place like Las Vegas working the job that they are?........ Most likely the Mexican drug cartels. The bright lights of Las Vegas are never really that bright in the light of day.
